My daily journal

                                                                                                                                  June 19, 200 BCE

Dear journal,
Today was one of those days that I tell you are fantastic. Today started out great. I woke up to the wonderful sunshine and was ready for a warm day. I had plum and pear on bread we made from the wheat we grew! it tasted like nothing i had ever dreamed of. After my breakfast, i went to work. I work in a paper factory so the work is very busy. Well today the emperor came in and talked to us and complemented us on our work. I felt so accomplished getting a good job from the emperor! So when i got home i wanted to talk to family about this instantly, but i couldn't find them! I spent hours looking for them through village after village. Finally i found them at my own job! They had come to see the emperor because the knew he was going to be there. When i met up with them they seemed so sad because the emperor was congratulating the best worker and they thought that it should be me. I thought that that was very generous of them and i started crying tears of joy! When we arrived home i told them about everything that happened before they got there. My family was so happy to hear that i enjoyed my job and that i was doing well. If it wasn't for me my family would not be able to afford food. For dinner we had my famous chicken with berries and honey. It was so tasty! I was so thankful of my family today that i came here to write what a special day it was. The only one thing that was bad was since it hasn't rained in a while the roads were very dusty making it very hard to see. But that's only because it has been so hot here lately. I miss the rain. I hope the rain comes because our crops are dieing from our drought of rain
                                                                              Sincerely,

The Han dynasty was a very large empire. It was locacted in China Proper, where most of the Chinese population lived. People lived in China Proper becasue of it flat lands and rivers. these rivers allowed people to build camps around water so water was a plentiful source. This also allowed trade to run and people would go on the rivers to trade. The flat lands allowed people to build without the problem of moutains.

This mortuary vessel, known as a hu, is decorated with the animated drama of a blue beast with bared fangs lunging at a mounted archer. Roaming the other side of the hu is a long, striding tiger. Executed with brilliant pigments and confident black brushstrokes, the decoration on this vessel perfectly expresses the boldly assertive character of the Western Han dynasty and is, moreover, one of the finest known examples of Han painting.

This is a picture of the rounder of the han dyanasty, Emperor Wu Han Wudi. he was the one who pushed back the attack of the Xiongnu. They were also known as the Huns. This  enabled the first opening of trading connections between China and the West, the Silk Road. the silk road was a huge contribution and if not ad been invented, trade would had never been able to trade far countries

In its beginning age, paper was used as the the tool for recording the important events and data. Before the invention of paper, the turtle shell, animal bone, golden stone, bamboo slips, wood and cloth were used for recording and remembering things. The supply of cheap paper meant that great thoughts could be written on the paper and read by people. Advanced and new ideas could be passed quickly and widely to the majority of people. It has promoted and quickened the steps of human civilization and development.

Pottery was very comman and popular in the Han dyanstyThe Han dynasty followed the Qin dynasty to become the second imperial dynasty of China. It consisted of two sides, the Western Han and the Eastern Han. The Han dynasty was a product of a rebellion that began after the death of the First Emperor. The Han dynasty government was largely characterized by a combination of feudal structures and central bureaucracy. The emperor was the head of the government. He was responsible for creating laws, heading the armed forces as its commander-in-chief and serving as the chief executive official.

Family letter home

Dear family,

I have been have the most wonderful time here in China! I cant believe I have been here for tten years now. I have been here from 89 BCE to 79BCE I have been eating the best food. The most common staple crops consumed during  the Han dynasty are wheat, barley, foxtail millet, proso millet, rice, and beans. Commonly eaten fruits and vegetables here include chestnuts, pears, plums, peaches, melons, apricots, strawberries, red bayberries, jujubes, calabash, bamboo shoots, mustard plant and taro. You know how much I love plums so I am really liking it here. Domesticated animals that were also eaten included chickens, Mandarin ducks, geese, cows, sheep, pigs, camels and dogs When people ate dogs, only certain types were eaten, others were as pets. Turtles and fish are taken from streams and lakes. Commonly eaten birds are owls, pheasants, magpies, sika deers, and Chinese Bamboo Partridges. Seasonings include sugar, honey, salt and soy sauce. Beer and wine are also regularly consumed.

In my stay here I also met the one and only emperor Wu! It was the coolest thing meeting him. Emperor Wu of Han, also translated Han Wu,  He was the seventh emperor of the Han Dynasty of China, ruling as such for 54 years, from 141 BCE to 87 BCE. Wu's reign resulted in the vast territorial expansion, development of a strong and centralized state which resulted from his governmental re-organization, including his promotion of Confucian doctrines. Wu is known for his religious innovations and patronage of the poetic and musical arts.

The sights that I have seen are amazing. I have seen the Great Wall of China. The great wall of china is outstanding. The purpose of the walls were to stifle attacks from other provinces and nomadic tribes to the north. Other purposes of the Great Wall have included border controls, allowing the imposition of duties on goods transported along the Silk Road, regulation or encouragement of trade and the control of immigration and emigration. Furthermore, the defensive characteristics of the Great Wall were enhanced by the construction of watch towers, troop barracks, garrison stations, signaling capabilities through the means of smoke or fire, and the fact that the path of the Great Wall also served as a transportation corridor. The Great Wall stretches from Shanhaiguan in the east, to Lop Lake in the west, along an arc that roughly delineates the southern edge of Inner Mongolia.

Paper invention

Paper was a very important invention. It contributed to current day and ancient China in a way that no other inventions did. Paper was used to write information on. I allowed people to write in a easier form. Paper was used for newspaper and wood lock printing. People used paper to keep information they collected on paper so they wouldn't forget it. This made remembering things a lot easier.

Paper making is one of the inventions by Chinese. 105 A.D. is often cited as the year in which paper making was invented. In that year, historical records show that the invention of paper was reported to the Eastern Han Emperor Ho-di by Ts'ai Lun, an official of the Imperial Court. "The oldest known archaeological fragments of the immediate precursor to modern paper date to 2nd century BC in China."  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paper The pulp paper making process is credited to Cai Lun, a 2nd century AD Han court eunuch. With paper an effective substitute for silk in many applications, China could export silk in greater quantity, contributing to a Golden Age .

The invention of paper effected many people's lives because it allowed them to write on a easier surface. Today people use paper everyday and a major contribution to how everyone lives. If paper was not invented, there would have been no written documents. This means the Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights, and the Constitution. The invention of paper allows people to print paper from online and have them in their hand the next second. People use paper every day. If the invention of paper hadn't happened school would be different. Paper is used in every single school for people to write with. The ancient people made a great invention of paper that helped them out at the time and contributed to how the world is now.

Map of the Han dynasty

This is a map of the very large Han dynasty between 206 B.C and 220 B.C. The Han dynasty covered a  big part of China. The Great Wall of China is bordering the northern part of the empire, protecting them from any intruders to the north. The Han dynasty was located in China Proper. China Proper is where a majority of the people live in China because of its rivers and flat lands. It's border of water allowed trade through water, which was a key success to a good empire.

The silk road makes history

The silk road was one of the greatest inventions and allowed trade to expanded. This amazing trade route let countries far away trade with each other. "Thanks to silks light weight, compactness, enormous demand and high price it was ideal for trade and long-distance transportation." The most common object traded was silk, hence how it got its name. I believe that if the silk road was never invented, life would be different than it is today. Countries in the middle ages relied on trade and this route let them trade with various countries. As the silk road was used more, more items were traded. Some countries traded animals while others traded clothes. This route let countries get what they want, and give up what they didn't want but others did. This route was a major contribution to the world today.

The silk road allowed countries to trade whatever they wanted. The goods carried on the Silk Road moved basically from the East to the West. At the initial stage of the Silk Road development Chinese received expensive horses and the seeds of lucerne and grapes. "Central Asia exported camels which were very appreciated in China, military equipment, gold and silver, semi-precious stones and glass items." Chinese paper, one of the most remarkable inventions of Chinese technical genius, was highly appreciated too. Many countries trades iron, silver, gold, coal, clothing, and ore. India was famous for its fabrics, spices and semi-precious stones, dyes, and ivory. Iran – for its silver products. Rome received spices, fragrances, jewels, ivory, and sugar and sent European pictures and luxury goods. Many countries became very successful from the silk road and later grew very powerful.

The supply of cheap paper meant that great thoughts could be written on the paper and read by people. Advanced and new ideas could be passed quickly and widely to the majority of people. It has promoted and quickened the steps of human civilization and development. Invention of the paper has enriched the culture and and literature. More and more great works were produced and passed to the majority of people so they could read them.
